About Zopiclone

Zopiclone is a type of sleeping pill that can be taken to treat symptoms of insomnia. It helps you fall asleep more quickly and also helps you stop waking up during the night. It usually takes around an hour to work. It belongs to a class of medicines commonly known as Z drugs and works by affecting the way in which signals are sent to the brain causing you to feel sleepy.

Usage Awareness

The usual dose is to take 1 x 7.5mg tablet just before you go to bed. Do not take 2 or more doses at the same time even if you feel a single dose isn't working. If you accidentally take an extra dose, contact your doctor straightaway to get some advice of what to do.

The common side effects include feeling sleepy or tired the next morning, bitter or metallic aftertaste, reduced alertness and dry mouth. Take a glass of water to bed with you if you suffer any oral problems. Do not drive or operate machinery should you still feel sleepy and tired.

You shouldn’t take Zopiclone if:

• You are allergic to any of the ingredients.
• You have been drinking alcohol, as this medication can increase the toxicity of alcohol.
• You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
• You are dealing with any mental health problems.
• You are suffering with liver or kidney problems.
• You have breathing problems where you stop breathing for a short time whilst sleeping.

Using Other Medication

Taking other medicines can interfere with each other and increase the chances of you having side effects. Some medicines can increase the sleepy effects. Speak to your doctor if you are concerned about taking this medication with other medication you are on.
